Ralph remembered when he saw Anna Venture for the first time. He got up off the couch and lumbered up to the television in a hypnotic-state and stroked the image’s hair on the large screen hanging on his basement wall, as if she were there with him. From that time forward, able to swivel his eyes one hundred and eighty degrees, he never looked at another female mantis or human for the that matter. Day after day, at the same hour, Ralph did whatever he had to do to ensure he was in front of his flat panel to peer into Anna Venture’s deep dark sexy doe eyes. Ralph began to act strangely. He hid a profile picture he’d created of her within his wallet, that he kept tucked into his abdomen pocket. While alone during his lunch or coffee breaks, he’d take out the actress’ photo and wonder if he had dreamed her into existence? His antennae tingled with electricity when he merely thought of her. Never in a million simulations had he imagined that such a connection, or a pull existed.
Readying himself for work a few days later, Ralph put each of his six legs into his pants, folded his two wings under his jacket, and left his antennae exposed for the commute to the recording studio where he worked as a musician. Arms equipped with pointy spikes, the young and handsome mantis grabbed his gig bag and clenched it during his stroll along the street where he lived. He couldn’t resist, and joyfully hummed a tune by the Earth band Journey titled “Don’t Stop Believing.” It was the soap opera’s title track!
Shielding his large attractive eyes from the glaring sun hanging green in the day sky, Ralph had one singular thought that he ruminated over; Anna… Anna… Anna.
“I’m in big trouble,” Ralph grimaced, “Big trouble.”
When the two would meet under the ancient Baobab tree, on the Serengeti Plains, in Tanzania, ‘inside’ of the Earth simulation, his heart nearly burst out of his chest.
“She’s a dream come true!
